ROX Desktop Environment Installation in Debian

What is ROX ?

ROX is a desktop environment, like GNOME, KDE and XFCE. It is an attempt to bring some of the good features from RISC OS to Unix and Linux.

Supported Platforms

Linux, Unix and Mac OS X. Basically, anything vaguely Unix-like which can run GTK applications. It can also run on Windows systems, under Cygwin.

ROX Desktop Environment installation in Debian

To install the unofficial package, users must add the line:

deb ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/rox4debian binary/

or

http://alioth.debian.org/projects/pkg-rox/.

to their /etc/apt/sources.list file, and then run:

#apt-get update
#apt-get install rox-desktop

After the installation, Users should log out of the X desktop and then select ROX in the X log-in window. It's recommended that GDM or xdm is used for this.
